The Necessary Evil of the Long Run

The long run is a necessary evil (必要悪) of marathon training. It's necessary because it builds up runners' endurance (体力) and stamina for running a full marathon. It's evil, though, because it takes up so much time and leaves the body so exhausted that the next day is usually a rest day. Today my long run goal was to run for 2:40. I didn't care about the distance. I just wanted to run at a steady pace and focus on my breathing, "In the nose and out the mouth." Next week's long run will be even more evil - three hours of running!

Amazon's Subscribe & Save

Today is one of the days of the month I most look forward to. My Amazon Subscribe & Save package arrives around the 24th of each month in a large cardboard box (ダンボール) 📦. And what's in the box? Enough whey protein, dates, Brazil nuts, aojiru drink powder and apple cider vinegar to keep me happy & healthy for a month. If you're an Amazon Prime member, you really should check out what Amazon has to offer. It's more convenient and cheaper than going to the supermarket or Costco for sure (絶対).

Christmas in September?!?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🎶.... Wait a sec! No, it's not. It's the middle of September and I'm still wearing shorts (ショートパンツ) But such is the world we live in nowadays. Right, Costco? I'm sure you're trying to get your customers in a merry mood and not just make a buck. Actually, seeing all these decorations did bring a smile to my face, and that didn't cost me - or make Costco - any money.

Sunbathing!

Monchiくん & Tamaちゃん are sunbathing (日光浴する) on this beautiful sunny day! Sunshine helps naturally activate Vitamin D in our bodies so we can use calcium (カルシウム) more effectively for strong bones & teeth. Don't be afraid of getting a little sun every day.☀️

Munch Away on Popcorn!

Do you get the munchies (or desire to eat a snack) in the afternoon or late at night? Most snacks like candy, cookies and potato chips are not so healthy. And you might think popcorn is too, but plain, air-popped popcorn is a low-calorie whole grain (全粒) snack. Just don't add too much salt and/or butter or you'll lose all its health benefits. Munch away (どうぞ)!

Happy Belated Respect for the Aged Day!

Happy Belated Respect for the Aged Day (敬老の日), which was yesterday in Japan🇯🇵. However, we should show respect to elderly people (年頭者) every day. What do you think about this konnyaku jelly that tells elderly people not to eat it because it's a choking hazard? I don't think the way it is written is respectful. It should say be careful when eating; not flat out (正面切って) don't eat this!

And the answer is.....

And the answer is.... Well, uh (えっと), 25! I was able to dig up 25 sweet potatoes, but they range drastically in size, from teeny-tiny (小さい) to regular-size. Now I need some recipes! What's the best way to cook sweet potatoes 🍠?
